Yahoo Finance Featured Liry's Jewelry: Tampa's Treasure and the Story Behind the Brand

Yahoo Finance published a dedicated profile on Liry's Jewelry, covering the brand's roots in Tampa, the family history behind the business, and what has allowed a jewelry store that started in a garage in 1989 to grow into a nationally recognized destination for genuine gold jewelry.

The piece was titled "Liry's Jewelry — Tampa's Treasure: Weaving Heritage Into Every Link" — and it's one of the most complete tellings of our story that's ever been published.

How Liry's Started

Our story starts in the late 1980s. Liredia and her mother Zenaida had come to the United States after fleeing Cuba. They started selling jewelry out of a garage in Tampa. No storefront, no marketing budget, no connections in the industry. Just two women who knew jewelry and were willing to work for it.

From that garage, they built enough of a reputation to move into a small retail space on Armenia Avenue in Tampa. Then in the late 90s, they moved into a larger location on Hanley Road — and that location is still home to Liry's Jewelry today.

In 2015, Liredia's son Daniel took over day-to-day operations and began expanding the business nationally through e-commerce, direct relationships with Italian manufacturers, and a commitment to transparency that the jewelry industry had largely abandoned.

That's the story Yahoo Finance told. And it's a story we're proud of.

What Yahoo Finance Highlighted

The profile focused on a few things that separate Liry's from the competition:

Direct sourcing. Most jewelry stores in the United States buy through layers of wholesalers. Each layer adds markup. By building direct relationships with manufacturers in Italy, we cut those layers out entirely — which is how we're able to offer genuine gold at prices that seem too good to be true but aren't.

Transparency. We list estimated weights on every product. We tell you exactly what karat you're getting. We show you the gold price so you can verify the value yourself. This is not standard practice in the jewelry industry. We made it standard practice because we believe you deserve to know what you're buying.

Family ownership. Every decision at Liry's is made by the family. There's no corporate parent, no investor pressure, no quarterly earnings to chase. That means we can do things that publicly traded jewelry companies can't — like standing behind every piece we sell and answering the phone when you call.

35 Years and Still Going

What Yahoo Finance captured that we don't always say loudly enough is that we've been doing this for over 35 years. Most jewelry businesses don't make it five years. The fact that we're still here, still growing, still family-owned, and still selling out of the same Tampa location Liredia built — that means something.

We've grown from a garage to a national brand. But the values that started in that garage haven't changed.
