How We Price Gold by Weight
At Liry's Jewelry, every solid gold and sterling silver piece is priced by weight. Every option on every product page — each length, karat and color — shows its estimated weight in grams right next to its price, so you know exactly how much metal you are paying for before you buy. We've been pricing this way in Tampa, Florida since 1989.
Why weight matters when you buy gold
Two chains can look identical in photos and still contain very different amounts of gold. Width and length tell you the size of a chain; weight tells you how much metal is in it. A heavier chain of the same width and length usually means tighter, denser links and more solid gold — and gold is priced by the gram. That's why we show the weight for every option instead of a single "sample" weight in the description.
Where to find the weight on our product pages
- Next to the price: when you choose a length, karat or color, the Est. Weight updates to match that exact option.
- "Estimated weight by option" table: just below the options, open this table to see every combination we offer — material, length, color, estimated weight in grams and price — side by side.
- Est. Weight button: tap it on any product for a short explanation of how estimated weights work.
Why the weights are estimates
Most of our pieces are made to order. Our handmade Miami Cuban links (7mm and wider in gold, 13mm and wider in sterling silver) are built link by link in our Tampa workshop, and every handmade chain comes out slightly different. Machine-made chains and cast pieces such as rings also vary a little from piece to piece. The weight we list is based on our standard dimensions for that option; your finished piece is weighed before it ships.
If your piece weighs more or less than estimated
Because precious metals are priced by weight, your final price is based on the actual weight of your finished piece:
- Heavier than estimated: we send you an invoice for the difference before your piece ships.
- Lighter than estimated: we refund the difference to your original payment method.
You only ever pay for the gold or silver you actually receive.
How we verify weight and purity
Every piece is weighed before it ships. For higher-value orders we send a video of your piece being weighed and X-ray (XRF) tested, so you can see the weight and karat for yourself. All of our gold is genuine solid gold (10kt, 14kt or 18kt and select 22kt) and our silver is genuine .925 sterling silver — never plated, filled or hollow unless a product is clearly labeled as hollow. Every piece is backed by a lifetime guarantee on its stated karat.
What else affects the price besides weight
- Karat: 18kt contains more pure gold than 14kt, and 14kt more than 10kt, so the same weight costs more in a higher karat.
- Made in our workshop vs. imported: our handmade Cuban links (7mm and up in gold, 13mm and up in silver) are made in-house in Tampa, so there's no middleman or import cost built into their price. Our machine-made chains are imported, so their price includes international shipping, duties and other import costs.
- Color: white and rose gold options are priced slightly higher than yellow gold of the same weight due to the higher labor costs.
- Stones and details: genuine diamonds, CZ stones and custom box locks add to the price independently of the metal weight.
How to compare jewelers fairly
When you're shopping for a gold chain anywhere — not just with us — these checks help you compare like for like:
- Same karat: compare 10kt to 10kt and 14kt to 14kt.
- Solid vs. hollow: make sure both chains are solid. Hollow and semi-solid chains weigh far less and dent more easily.
- Gram weight for the same width and length: if a seller doesn't list the weight, ask for it in writing before you buy.
- Handmade or machine-made: the two are built differently, so make sure you're comparing the same construction from each seller.
- What happens if the weight is off: ask whether the seller adjusts the price to the actual weight, as we do.
Frequently asked questions
Do you list the gold weight for every chain and ring?
Yes. Every option of every product on lirysjewelry.com shows its estimated weight in grams, and the "Estimated weight by option" table on each product page lists every option's weight and price together.
Is the listed weight exact?
It's an estimate based on our standard dimensions. Your finished piece is weighed before it ships, and the price is adjusted to its actual weight.
What if my chain comes in heavier than the estimate?
We send you an invoice for the difference before your piece ships, so there are no surprises after delivery.
What if it comes in lighter?
We refund the difference to your original payment method.
Are your chains solid gold?
Yes. Our gold pieces are genuine solid 10kt, 14kt or 18kt gold, and our silver pieces are .925 sterling silver. Hollow chains are sold separately and clearly labeled as hollow.
Which of your Cuban links are handmade?
Our solid gold Miami Cuban links 7mm and wider, and our sterling silver Miami Cuban links 13mm and wider, are handmade in our Tampa workshop. Smaller widths are solid machine-made chains.
